The Arts and Movement
Children grow emotionally, socially, creatively, and cognitively through the arts and movement. My goal is to support the student’s natural desire to create, express and perform, by supporting their ideas, curiosities, and imaginations through verbal and physical expression. Movement increases blood and oxygen flow to the body which helps with brain function and cognition. Students are positively affect mentally, physically and cognitively through movement. I find ways to get children moving through simple stretching breaks, picture walks and end of the hour dance celebrations!
Growth Mindset in Art!
Every child can achieve success within the visual arts. I believe in providing opportunities for each and every child to grow and learn. I do this by creating lesson that meets the needs of where students are, then instructing students with what they need and when they need it. In the art room students will experience projects that will challenge them to think critical and demonstrate perseverance. Its important to believe that every child can learn with focus, effort and determination .
Throughout the school year I enjoy reading books to the students. Every book I read connects to the art lesson. My goal is to inspire the creativity within the student and have them think about the message the book has to offer. "Beautiful Oops!" is a book that has a growth mindset message. When students see “mistakes” within his or her artwork they often view that mistake as a failure. In art mistakes are celebrated, because it is an chance to be creativity and find a new solution that would not have happened without that mistake. Students will learn that through our failures or mistakes there is opportunity to grow!
